The Poet's Dog
By Patricia MacLachlan
Teddy was raised by a poet, Sylvan, and grew up listening to poetry being read aloud. One day, Teddy finds Nickel and Flora trapped in a storm. The children follow Teddy to the cabin in the woods where Teddy used to live with Sylvan but now his owner is now gone. Being with the children reminds Teddy of his life with Sylvan and he wonders, "What will life be like when the children go home?"
I bet you didn't know that only children and poets can talk to dogs.
